And today in this mini episode, we're just going to talk a little bit about what's going on this month in Hawaii and the rest of the US. And I guess I will start with what's going on in Hawaii, which is a couple of updates.

Backyard Poultry Workshop Details

Um, first are for our Oahu uh livestock folks, there will be a backyard poultry workshop uh December 20th in Waimanalo at the UH Care Center from 9 to 12. This is being hosted by Inu and Bustamanti, who is our livestock extension agent in Oahu, talking about basics of raising uh layer hands, keeping your flock healthy, and all that great stuff. Uh, they will have some live demo going on as well. So kind of perfect for folks that are beginning um or just starting and wanting to start a small backyard flock. Uh, so again, that's December 20th in Waimanolo from 9 to 12.

Livestock Brand Re‑Registration Reminder

And also, Department of Agriculture and Biosecurity, or DAB, is also wanting to remind our livestock owners that they must re-register their brands between it started September 1st and by the end of the year, December 31st. So you need to do re-register your brands to protect the rights to their brands, um, which help to identify livestock to their owners. And every brand needs to be registered, um, re-registered or registered. Um, but every five years, if you already have a brand and it's registered, you need to redo that every five years. So we'll include the link for you down below about that as

Nebraska Ag Outlook Meetings

well. And I'll hand it over to Shannon for updates in Nebraska and the West.

Okay, we we actually have quite a few. We have a lot going on between December and the beginning of January. So uh Cornhuskers Economics Ag Outlook meetings will feature experts from the University's Department of Ag Economics and Nebraska Farm Business, Inc., sharing updates on crop and livestock markets, farm finances, ag policy, and more. They're gonna provide context, practical takeaways to help producers evaluate their risk management plans, uh, adjust to changing conditions, and position their operations for long-term success. The meetings are gonna also cover key tax provisions from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that will affect ag operations, deductions, and planning for the 2025 tax year. Presenters are gonna explore historical farm financial trends and what they see for the year ahead. A policy segment will cover farm program updates, including the ag risk coverage or ARC, and price loss coverage, PLC decisions, and directions for producers. Speakers are gonna include financial and tax professionals, commodity marketing experts, and ag policy specialist and other ag economists. this point in time. So, again, so this is basically designed to kind of go over what potentially could happen in the next few years. The first one of those, because they are in person only, is December 4th, 2025, and it's 1 to 3 p.m. Central. It's in Kearney. You can register online or you can call the Buffalo County Extension Office if you're interested. Uh December 5th, 9 to 11 in Scotts Bluff at the Panhandle Research Center. Again, you can register online or you can call that office there December 10th from 2 to 4 p.m. in Lincoln. And you can call the Lancaster County office or register online on December 11th from 1 to 3 p.m. in Norfolk. And again, you can uh register online or call that local office. The

Event Dates And Locations Across Nebraska

Ag Land quarterly update happened in November on the 17th. So that is that happened if you're interested in what's going on in current agland trends. Um land lease rental rate programs will be happening in person December 4th in Seward from 10:30 to 2 p.m. at the Office of Nebraska Extension in Seward County. You can call and uh register for that if you'd like to at that local offer office in Seward County. December 9th in Auburn from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Nebraska Extension Office in Nimaha County. Again, you can call the you can register by calling the office or you can just come in. December 11th in Scotts Bluff, that will be taking place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Panhandle Research Extension and Education Center. Um, and you can call the research center to register for that if you'd like to go to that. That does include dinner, so you should it would be really nice if you call in advance, basically. December 12th in Bridgeport from 9 to noon at the Prairie Winds Community Center. Again, please call the Merrill County Extension Office. And then December 15th, 2025, in O'Neill from 1 to 4 at the Office of Nebraska Extension in Holt County. You can call the Holt County office to register for that one. December 16th in Mead, that's gonna be from 10 to 2. Uh at the Eastern Nebraska Research Extension and Education Center, and you can call the uh Saunders County Extension Office to register for that. December 18th in OR from 10:30 to 2 Central Time at the Office of Nebraska Extension in Valley County. Uh please register for that by December 17th by calling extension uh in Valley County.

Captive Insurance Workshop Overview

And then captive insurance for ag will be explored during a workshop December 2nd through the 3rd. Uh and that will be in Lincoln, Nebraska, where producers, ag business, and policy centers meet to rethink insurance. It'll be presented by the University of Nebraska's Department of Ag Economics. So you can register for that at cap.unl.edu. That capture insurance is really starting to generate a lot of buzz, but also some confusion. So basically, the idea behind this is to go through and really break it down and have some discussions about

Returning To The Ranch Webinar

it. There's also an upcoming webinar for returning to the ranch. So that's December 4th at noon central time. So it's part of that discussion you may have heard over the last few years called the Great Wealth Transfer. It's basically a discussion on uh agriculture, how it's going to potentially change over time. And a lot of Nebraska ranch families are navigating questions about succession ownership and how to keep the next generation involved. So the webinar is gonna highlight the key challenges facing multi-generational operations. So that's all for us.
