And today in our mini episode, we're just going to talk a little bit about what's going on this month and what we got coming up in our programs. I think we'll start here with some Hawaii updates.

Hawaii Events: ANCW Meeting And BQA

Okay. We do have the American National Cattlewomen are holding their regional meeting and wired meeting here in Hawaii in April. So just giving you a heads up on that's coming on the pipeline. You can find more information about that event at www.ancw.org. We will be offering a BQA certification on one of the days of the event. So go check out their website for more information on that. I bet that's gonna be fun. Yeah, I'm I'm looking forward to it. I don't think they had a program here in Hawaii for many of years, as I remember. So I'm looking forward to working with them. Um it's it was it's been good.

On-Farm Processing Workshops Overview

So we are also in March having our on-farm processing workshops happen. So this is a two-day workshop which provides livestock producers with an overview of on-farm livestock processing regulations, food safety requirements, and some best management practices. So it's a two-day workshop. Day one, we'll have an evening classroom session focused on more of the regulatory considerations, kind of food safety, what you're doing, you know, if you're wanting to sell, what's the um federal requirements if you are selling and what you can and cannot sell, right? When you're doing on farm processing, it's a little bit different. So we're gonna talk a little bit about that stuff, um, some producer responsibilities on that end. And then on day two, we'll take sort of what we learned in the classroom um and put those into concepts that we can do some hands-on demonstrations on the farm processing uh protocols and operations that you can use there.

Workshop Schedule And Registration Details

So we will be on Oahu for our workshops March 10th and 11th, um, down in Kako Iibi farm. And both days we will be at that same location. And March 13th and 14th will be on Maui. The first day one of that workshop is gonna be at the um Hannibal Tovares Community Center in Pukalani, and day two will be up at Ulupalako Ranch. So you do need to register, registration is required um for these both of these events. Um, and you are uh required to attend day one if you want to participate in day two. And we are limited on the amount of spaces we have for the day two participation. So that makes sense. Put the links, yeah, just you know, regularly especially with the hands-on part, but it would be so fun. Yeah, it is. It's a good one. I think it's a great opportunity um to you know meet with. And we do have um our guest lecturer that's coming

for this is Dr. Lida Garcia. She is with the Ohio State University, yeah, and she is their meet extension specialist there. She's come and done a couple of workshops with us and other things here. It's been great working with her.

Nebraska Programs And Workshops

very cool. So for Nebraska, uh, we have a state in transition planning and in-person workshop in Curtis, Nebraska on March 11th. You can visit cap.unl.edu for more information. On March 17th, we have a land application meeting where they're looking at the application of manure since it's not just you know a livestock byproduct. You know, it's really a powerful fertilizer that can improve soil health, increase crop yields, and save farmers money. So go to cap.unl.edu for additional information about that. And then we have a virtual landlord tenant meeting on March 26th. So it's an online version of basically looking at different financial strategies for effective ag land leasing and management, whether you're the landlord or the tenant. Basically, it kind of goes through a few different scenarios. It covers current Nebraska cash rental rates and land values, best practices for ag leases and other contract considerations. Um, it also allows you to have time, if you have questions about leases, to ask an expert, basically, which is really nice. So you can have your land leasing questions answered or at least find out potentially where to go for additional information. So yeah.

Why Virtual Leasing Sessions Matter

You guys have a lot of online programs, which I think is really good, especially because otherwise it'd be really early for us folks here in Hawaii.

Yeah. Well, and the nice thing, at least with most of our online programs, is that I mean, I I know it's like very Nebraska focused in terms of the rental rates, but it actually has a lot of good discussions on like if you're leasing land, right? What are some considerations like if there's a fire, if there's a hail or tornado or some other weather event or life event, even you know, what are some like caveats you need to include in your land leases when you're thinking about stuff like that? So I don't know, just things to think about.
